Time Away from Work

Taking time off can make a world of difference for your overall well-being and productivity. You may also need extended time away from work for health, family or other reasons. WSP USA offers helpful benefits that allow you time to relax, recover, care for family members, honor personal commitments and more.

Paid Time Off (PTO)/Vacation

WSP USA provides time off for vacation, sick leave and other personal needs through Paid Time Off (PTO). WSP has both an accrual-based PTO program and a Flexible Time Off (FTO) program depending on your grade level.

In the accrual-based PTO program, WSP employees accrue PTO at generous rates and are allowed to roll over up to a maximum of two times the annual accrual rate. Moreover, WSP encourages workplace flexibility, allowing employees the opportunity to work pre-approved alternative schedules without the need to use PTO.

WSP’s FTO program eliminates a capped number of paid time off days and allows employees the flexibility to decide when and for how long to take paid time off, subject to reasonable use based on business needs.

To learn more about the PTO program, visit the Employee Handbook.

Holidays

WSP USA provides the following paid holidays each year:

New Year’s Day
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Memorial Day
Independence Day
Labor Day

Leaves of Absence

WSP USA offers various types of leaves to support the needs of our employees. Below, we highlighted some of WSP’s leave polices for when you need to be out of the office. For more information on eligibility and required actions, review the WSP Leave Guide.

Family and Medical Leave

The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provides eligible employees the opportunity to take unpaid, job-protected leave for their own sickness or disability, having a baby or caring for a sick family member. You may be able to use your paid time off, disability benefits, state benefits, or WSP Paid Parental leave to receive income during your FMLA leave.

Please note: You will continue to be responsible for your portion of your benefit premiums while on unpaid FMLA leave.

Key Features at a Glance

What is FMLA for?

FMLA protects your job while you are on an approved FMLA leave. Leaves may be taken for the following reasons, up to the durations noted:

Your own or a family member’s health condition

A health condition that makes you unable to perform your job, or to care for an immediate family member who has a serious health condition (12 weeks)

Disability Leave

WSP USA provides Short-term Disability (STD) Leave to benefits eligible employees. Short-term Disability Leave is intended to cover you for up to 13 weeks at a time following a non-occupational injury, illness, or birth of a child. Visit the Short-term Disability page for more details on eligibility, coverage and Buy-Up STD coverage. Note: There is a seven-calendar day waiting period to receive your STD insurance benefit, unless you are admitted to the hospital with a 24-hour stay.

The WSP USA Leave Guide book is a great place to get all the detailed information on Leaves of Absence. WSP also has the Parental Leave Guide for any new parents wanting information specific to parental leave process.

Long-term disability (LTD) Leave benefits enable you to maintain a portion of your income after you have been disabled for 90 days. You can purchase LTD coverage to meet your financial needs. Visit the Long-term Disability page for more details on coverage levels and costs.

See the WSP USA Employee Handbook for more details.

Personal Leave

WSP is aware that an employee may need some time off from work to attend to personal situations that do not qualify as a Family and Medical Leave, or any other leave provided by the Company. In such circumstances, employees may apply for Personal Leave.

Personal Leave may be granted for up to three months. For an employee to be eligible to apply for a Personal Leave, the employee must be employed by WSP for at least 12 months. When an employee wishes to take a Personal Leave, they must get approval from their manager, HR Business Partner and US Leaves Team. The Personal Leave may be denied, granted, modified, or extended, at the Company's sole discretion and on such terms as the Company may impose, taking into consideration the staffing needs of the Company.

See the WSP USA Employee Handbook for more details on leave and benefit premiums payment while on Personal Leave.

Military leave

A military leave of absence will be granted to employees who are absent from work due to service in the U.S. uniformed services in accordance with the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) and/or applicable state laws.

Advanced notice of military service is required unless military necessity prevents such notice or it is otherwise impossible or unreasonable. Employees must provide Prudential | Absence One with a copy of their military papers as soon as they receive them.

Military leave is unpaid. Employees may elect to use available PTO during this leave. Use of PTO time in these cases must still comply with WSP's tenure-based PTO Policy. In the event an employee qualifies for an unpaid military leave of absence offered by the Company, such leave remains unpaid, and the employee may not use Unlimited PTO during the leave except where required by federal, state and local laws. Provided an employee's absence does not exceed applicable statutory limitations, he or she will retain reemployment rights and accrue seniority and benefits in accordance with applicable federal and state laws.

See the WSP USA Employee Handbook for more details.

Please note: You will continue to be responsible for your portion of your benefit premiums while on unpaid Military leave.
